Introducing Preprint Highlights for Special Issues

8 July 2026

The latest Journal of Cell Science (JCS) Special Issue, Cell Biology of the Nucleus, includes a companion article, Preprint highlights in nuclear cell biology, featuring a selection of recent preprints chosen and highlighted by members of our community.

Although JCS has published Preprint Highlights articles previously, this collection represents a reimagined approach to the format. Here, preLighters were invited to identify particularly notable preprints that aligned with the Special Issue theme and to explain why they felt these studies deserved attention.

For this inaugural collection, Pierre Caron, Abby Hein, Reinier Prosée, Sristilekha Nath and Filipe Nunes Vicente highlighted studies that span a wide range of topics in nuclear cell biology, including centromere biology, chromatin organisation, nuclear envelope architecture, nuclear positioning and nuclear mechanoprotection.

This new approach offers a way to bring the voice and expertise of the preLights community into themed journal content, while simultaneously drawing attention to exciting research that is still at the preprint stage. Hopefully this first themed preprint collection will be the first of many similar collaborations linking preLights, preprints and journal content.
