Hala Taha
I am a biologist with a focus on neglected tropical diseases, particularly urogenital schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma haematobium. My current research investigates the transcriptional responses of S. haematobium to praziquantel using RNA-Seq, aiming to uncover stress response pathways and potential mechanisms of drug resistance. I am also interested in developing field-applicable diagnostic tools, such as portable PCR and biomarker-based assays, to improve surveillance and treatment monitoring in endemic communities. Beyond the laboratory, I advocate for community-based strategies that reduce exposure to contaminated water sources and complement mass drug administration efforts.
