Katie Gilmour is a Professor at the University of Ottawa and is an Editor for Journal of Experimental Biology.
Her  lab uses a range of physiological, biochemical and molecular approaches to address questions about stress in fish.  She is using the dominance hierarchies established by small groups of rainbow trout as a means of examining the interactions between behaviour and physiology in fish, specifically the physiological costs associated with low social status.  She also studies the mechanisms through which fish maintain gas exchange, ion balance, and acid-base balance in diverse environments, with a particular focus on the conflicts and compromises that occur at the fish gill, a key site for all of these processes.
