I’m a cell biologist interested in fundamental mechanisms of cell division, currently working in Helder Maiato’s group at i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) in Porto, Portugal. I am currently studying how cells segregate their chromosomes accurately, and why this process sometimes goes wrong. I study both the process of mitosis in human somatic cells and meiosis in mammalian oocytes, usually using high-resolution microscopy techniques. I also have a strong interest in finding innovative ways to control proteins in a spatiotemporal manner using drugs and optogenetics.
